How to come to Dresden
Dresden can be easily reached by plane, train or car.
- Plane:
Dresden has an international airport. The airport is located in Northern
suburbs of Dresden. If you do not want to take a taxi (20 minutes; about 20-30 EUR)
you will find more information on how to reach the conference location in the
section "How to reach the conference location".
- Train:
Dresden has direct train connections with all major European cities. Train can be also
used as a connection from or to other airports. The travel time from Berlin is about
2 hours and from Prague is about 3 hours. Railway timetable together with price
information is available at http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en.
- Car:
Dresden is situated on E40 and E55 freeways.
How to reach the conference location
The conference will take place on the campus of Technische Universität Dresden
at a building named Alte Mensa
(no. 24a on the campus scheme).
This building has several entrances. For the
conference you should take the one located at Dülferstraße, which is
situated about 1km south of Dresden Hauptbahnhof, the cities main railway station.
Coming from the airport one should take train S2 to Dresden Hauptbahnhof.
This journey takes about 25 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes between 05:00 and 23:00. The ticket costs
1.80 EUR and is valid for Dresdens local
public transport system as well. (For more information on tickets see the section "Dresdens public transport
system" on the bottom of this page.) Then, from the main railway station there are four local
transport lines one could take. All of them do have a stop directly in front of the main entrance to the
railway station:
- city bus line no. 72, directions Coschütz or Gittersee
- city bus line no. 76, direction Mockritz
- tram line no. 3, direction Coschütz
- tram line no. 8, direction Südvorstadt
In the case of using some city bus line take the stop at Mommsenstraße,
and walk along Mommsenstraße until Dülferstraße on
the left side. In the case of using some tram line take the stop at Nürnberger Platz.
Note that if arriving by no. 8, the tram stops about 50m behind Nürnberger Platz
whereas no. 3 stops directly there. Then, walk along Münchner Straße, the street
with the broad red footpath between the two street lanes. At Helmholtzstraße
turn left and follow until Mommsenstraße. Now, turn left again and follow until
Dülferstraße on the right side.
